Scotty Jones
Urthy fiber art

Picture
When I was nine my grandmother taught me to sew on a singer 27K Sphinx model. It had been her mothers sewing machine and was originally a treadle machine. Grandma had the "electric kit" put on the machine in the 1930s. It was a beautiful mysterious machine. This began my love of all things vintage and an appreciation for fine craft

I discovered the art of Andy Warhol a decade later and learned how to screen print. I began printing my own original images onto muslin. Once I began combining my prints with vintage textile I found my voice as an artist.

In 2020 my creative practice took another turn, I discovered surface design and began designing my own textiles. Pairing my screen prints with my own textile designs has been a game changer. The patterns in my textiles are inspired by the mid century fabrics that I have always loved.
The images I work with are an eclectic array yet cohesive as a collection. They are my interpretation of mid century pop culture in the atomic age.
